Seems okay. I'd just provide links to lists of "Staff Members", "Administrators" and "Moderators" so that people can easily find out who they are and contact them if need be.

I am sorry, I really should have got involved in this thread, but I've been busy on another project, so many apologies.

It all looks really good and I have no quarrel with any of it, just a couple of notes though:

What are "DEMF standards"? Are these listed anywhere? If not then we need to make them and link to them. Standards have to be defined and measurable otherwise they don't mean anything. If we do have them then please ignore my ignorance, but a link in the final page might be useful

Just a typo - capital D on dead End Movie Forum

Pleased with this though - shows good maturity on a forum or community when it decides to review its' own policies

You're right ismunn, there really are no "Dead End Movie Forum standards" (short of swearing and calling Michael Bay names)...

Once this was agreed upon the "Dead End Movie Forum standards" was going to be the next task. I was figuring that "rules" and "standards" wasn't really the same thing as "standards" is more of a idealogical thing.

I'm wondering whether all references to things of a "sexual nature" or pornography should be removed from the rules, as they might be more completely explored in the "standards" section.

I say this because pornography is something that is very much in the eye of the beholder, its too broad a term. Afterall a great deal of horror could be considered to be such to some.

Its all a case of trying to write rules that don't act as a straight-jacket when we do discuss something that is a little more risqué, if you know what I mean.

What do you think?

That's a valid point. Discussions on something like Baise Moi could be classed as "pornography" (or even talking about "that scene" in Closer :D )

I think you're totally right, standards are idealogical things that should support the community. So, while everyone adheres to the rules, everyone has a shared vision as to what the Forum is and what is classed as acceptable.

So going in based on that, topics that do have a sexual nature or some other perhaps darker subject, can be really explored in the 'Standards' because there's far more space to move when discussing these than rules. In the words of Babosa, 'more like a set of guidelines' but rules are rules.

On a similar tangent, I think that we should really come up with a vision for the site along with some aims and objectives. This would position the Forum and therefore the podcasts well for the future. It's always good to review these things. Here's my understanding of those terms:

Vision
The idea, the thought - in an ideal world what would you be able to do with the site, e,g, to be single best place to discuss films

Aims
What we do to work towards that vision e.g. create a place to discuss, have a membership

Objectives
How we get there and these things are measurable e.g. we create weekly podcasts, we put out 5 news stories a week, we

You get the idea. It does become dangerously close to the beginnings of a business plan, but it's also good for the planning towards the future with all kinds of opportunities that may be about.

Edited rules from above, with the changes mentioned.

I also agree with the idea of the "business plan" ismunn, if you want to start another thread based on that idea then feel free...
